May 2012 Exclusive Story
Selecting the Right Technology is Vital in Horizontal Wells

What’s in store for North American exploration, drilling and production? The Baker Hughes’ May 4 count shows a net jump of 20 rigs from the previous week, with nearly 70 percent of all active rigs targeting oil. While domestic liquids production continues to climb, natural gas market data indicate that reduced gas drilling and increased demand are producing results. IHS examines the bigger picture, showing 2012 year-to-year onshore and offshore drilling permits up 10 percent. Insights about the way forward are coming in the
June Issue Of
The American Oil & Gas Reporter!
Artificial Lift Technology
How good can it get? With the potential for oil production to grow by 4 million bbl/d in the next decade, an all-out domestic crude oil revival is under way. Operators are putting more seismic, drilling and well servicing crews to work in both unconventional and conventional fields. At the same time, enhanced recovery is experiencing a renaissance, with oil produced from EOR augmenting phenomenal hikes from new tight oil plays. Right on cue, the June AOGR reveals new downhole and surface artificial lift systems, emerging new roles for multiphase pumps, advances in polymer and CO2 flooding, improved production strategies for liquids-rich horizontal wells, and the latest in automation and remote monitoring.
Offshore & Subsea
The ultradeepwater Lower Tertiary represents a frontier like no other in the revived Gulf of Mexico. Challenges include water depths exceeding 10,000 feet, unmapped reservoirs at depths of 20,000-plus, wide-open ocean with sparse infrastructure, and of course the subsalt, requiring advanced 3-D seismic techniques. Special reports include the inside story of the frac pack completions at Cascade/Chinook–among the first fields in the world imaged with wide-azimuth 3-D–to enhance production flows from the subsurface through the subsea system and on to the Gulf’s first FPSO. Guest authors also present the latest in downhole isolation packers, integrated modeling of intelligent completion devices, and subsea and artificial lift alternatives at the deepwater K2 Field.
International Operations – Part 3
While independents are busy pursuing a treasure trove of opportunities across North America, they are sought-after partners for onshore and offshore projects the world over. Anadarko Petroleum Corporation is a perfect example of how North America’s operators are complementing their domestic portfolios with international exploration. Anadarko has made a series of natural gas discoveries in deepwater East Africa that rank among the largest in recent years. The June issue highlights the geophysics technologies that facilitated its discovery of the “string of pearls” off Mozambique and charts its strategy to transition from an exploration mode to the development phase at the world-class Windjammer, Barquentine and Lagosta fields.
It’s all in the June issue, with a special feature on the prolific Permian Basin, and all the producer/operator convention and financial news that operators need to prosper like never before.
